Celje has a decent selection of places to eat, concentrated in and around the pedestrianised old town and the Savinja riverbank. Slovenian Styrian cuisine runs to hearty meat dishes — roast pork, veal, and game — with good local wine from the Laški Riesling and Šipon grapes grown in the Savinja and Sotla valleys.
The old town has several good-quality restaurants and cafés. Prices are lower than Ljubljana; a full dinner with wine in a good restaurant will cost around €15–25 per person. Look for places serving seasonal menus — Celje's restaurant scene tracks the seasons fairly closely, with mushroom dishes prominent in autumn and lamb in spring.
