Celje is on the main Ljubljana–Maribor–Vienna railway line and is easy to reach by train. The journey from Ljubljana takes about an hour; from Maribor about 45 minutes. Trains are frequent, comfortable, and cheap. The station is a five-minute walk from the old town.
By car, Celje is directly on the A1 motorway (Ljubljana–Maribor), with a well-signed exit. Driving from Ljubljana takes about an hour; from Maribor about 45 minutes.
The city is also a natural stopping point on the way to or from Austria via the Karavanke tunnel route.
