Skalna Klet

Skalna Klet ("the rocky cellar") is a historic tavern carved into the rock face beneath the hill leading up to Celje Castle. The building is centuries old and has served as a place for locals to eat and drink for generations, making it one of the older continuous hospitality establishments in the city. The interior, cut into the living rock, is cool in summer and atmospheric year-round.

The location at the foot of the castle hill makes it a natural stop before or after the walk up to Stari Grad. The menu leans traditional Slovenian and Styrian: roast meats, stews, and local wine. It is a genuinely pleasant place to sit after a morning of sightseeing.
