Šmatinsko Jezero is an artificial lake just outside Celje, built in the 1970s for flood control and later turned into a local recreation area. Paths and open views around the water make it a pleasant change from the town centre.
It is best treated as an easy outdoor break rather than a headline attraction, especially if you have extra time after visiting Celje Castle and the old town.
