The Slovenian Adriatic is best in May–June and September, when the sea is warm enough to swim, the air is comfortable (20–28°C), and the crowds are thin. July and August are hot, busy, and considerably more expensive — the town is largely Italian holidaymakers and a fair number of Germans and Austrians during those months.
Winter is quiet but pleasant: temperatures rarely drop below freezing, the bora wind can blow hard for a day or two at a time, and most of the seafront restaurants stay open. April brings the Šape Festival, a local seafood and wine event, and August the Izola Fest of street performance and music. The Izola International Film Festival, mid-June, is small but well-regarded for independent and Balkan cinema.
