Izola's draw is its atmosphere — small, working, Italianate, with no single must-see sight. Walk the harbour front in the late afternoon, climb up to the Church of St Maurus and the bell tower for the view, then have an early dinner at a fish restaurant on the quay. For a half-day, the Strunjan Nature Reserve to the west is the best small-scale walk on the Slovenian coast; the Parenzana cycle path is the best longer outing.
