Maribor has a small airport (MBX) with limited international connections — mostly seasonal flights from the UK and Scandinavia via Ryanair. For most visitors, Ljubljana (about 130 km to the west) is the more practical arrival point. Direct trains connect Ljubljana and Maribor several times daily; the journey takes around 2 hours on the faster services. Buses are slower but often cheaper.
From Austria, Graz is the nearest major city — about 60 km north across the border. Trains connect Graz to Maribor in roughly 1.5 hours, making a combined Austria-Slovenia itinerary very easy. Maribor is also on the main rail corridor between Ljubljana and Budapest, so it connects well into wider Central European itineraries.
By car, the A1 motorway runs through Maribor, which makes it an easy stop on road trips between Ljubljana, Vienna, or Zagreb.
