Nova Gorica is on the western edge of Slovenia and is well served from both sides of the border.
By train: The Transalpina line runs from Jesenice in the north through Bled-Jezero and Most na Soci to Nova Gorica, and continues south to Sezana. The Jesenice-Nova Gorica section is one of the most scenic train rides in Europe, with the Solkan Bridge crossing as the highlight. From the Italian side, there is no direct rail crossing — you have to walk from Nova Gorica station to Gorizia Centrale (about 15 minutes), where Italian regional trains connect to Udine, Trieste, and Venice.
By bus: Direct buses run from Ljubljana (around 2 hours), and frequent local buses cross the border to Gorizia and on to Monfalcone and Trieste.
By car: The H4 motorway from Ljubljana ends just east of Nova Gorica. From Italy, the A23/A34 brings you to Gorizia, with the border crossings at Casa Rossa or Sant'Andrea both open 24 hours.
The nearest airports are Ljubljana (110 km), Trieste (40 km), and Venice Marco Polo (160 km).
