Slovenia's largest casino dominates a block in the centre of Nova Gorica, and it is impossible to talk about the town without it. Built for cross-border gamblers from Italy — where casinos are tightly restricted — it has been one of the city's main economic engines since the 1980s. The slick mirrored facade and the late-night taxis dropping people off at the entrance feel transplanted from a different city altogether.
Whether you go in is up to you, but it is worth knowing the place exists: it explains a fair amount about Nova Gorica's after-dark life, including the cluster of late-opening restaurants and bars in the surrounding streets that cater to the casino crowd.
