Algeciras rewards a few hours of slow walking more than it does any particular attraction. The Plaza Alta at the top of the old town is the heart of the place — shaded, tiled, with orange trees and a good church on one corner. The Marinid Walls nearby are among the best-preserved medieval fortifications in Andalusia. The views across the bay to Gibraltar make the port esplanade worth a walk at any time of day, but especially at sunset when the Rock catches the last light.
