Aracena is good to visit at almost any time of year. Spring (March–May) is the loveliest season, when the chestnut trees flower and wildflowers cover the hillsides. Summers are warm but significantly cooler than the Andalucian lowlands — the altitude of the sierra makes it a popular escape from the heat. Autumn brings mushrooms (October–November is prime season) and chestnut harvests.
Winter is quiet and can be cold, but the cave is a constant temperature year-round. The town's main festival, the Fiesta de San Juan, takes place in late June.
August weekends bring day-trippers from Seville and Huelva; the cave entrance queue can be long. Book cave tickets in advance for weekend visits.
