Fuengirola's beach runs for seven kilometres from the Sohail Castle headland in the west to the Los Boliches neighbourhood in the east. It is a wide, sandy beach with calm Mediterranean water — the Costa del Sol geography shields it from Atlantic swells, making it reliably flat and safe for swimming. The water temperature reaches 24–25°C by late summer.
The promenade (Paseo Marítimo) runs the full length, lined with chiringuitos serving fried fish, seafood, and cold beer. The quality of the beachside restaurants varies; the smaller, less-polished chiringuitos tend to have better food than the larger tourist-facing ones. Sunbeds and parasols are available for hire along most of the beach. The western end near the castle is slightly less developed and popular with Spanish families; the central section near the town is busiest with international tourists.
