Palacio de Mondragón

The Palacio de Mondragón is the finest building in Ronda's old Moorish town. Originally built as the palace of the Moorish king, it was rebuilt after the Christian reconquest in 1485 and now houses the municipal museum. The interior mixes Moorish arches, Renaissance courtyards, and Mudéjar tilework; the views from the garden terrace at the back, hanging directly over the gorge, are extraordinary.

The museum covers the archaeology and history of the Ronda region, from prehistoric cave paintings and Roman-era finds to the Nasrid period and the reconquest. The building itself is the real draw — the interlocking courtyards and the garden balcony are among the most pleasant spaces in the city. Allow an hour.
