Mirador del Estrecho

Hilltop viewpoint on the N-340 with the best panorama of the strait and the Rif mountains.

A small terraced viewpoint perched at 320 metres above the strait, eight kilometres east of Tarifa on the coast road towards Algeciras. The drive up is steep but quick, and the reward is the textbook view of the Strait of Gibraltar — the white town below, the strait laid out in front, the green hills of Morocco rising directly across the water.

A small café-bar at the top serves coffee and tortilla; informational panels identify the peaks on the Moroccan side. The viewpoint is busiest at sunset and during the autumn bird migration, when raptors are funnelled through the narrow crossing in long visible streams.
