Albarracín sits at over 1,000 metres altitude, which keeps summer temperatures manageable when the Spanish lowlands are baking — high 20s in July and August rather than the high 30s of Madrid. Winters can be cold and occasionally snowy, and a dusting of snow on the pink-roofed houses is one of the loveliest sights in Spain.
The town is busiest in July, August, and at long weekends (puentes) when Spanish families fill the small hotels. May, June, and September are ideal — comfortable temperatures, fewer crowds, and the surrounding sierra at its greenest. The town's main fiesta is in honour of Santa María de Oriente in the first week of September.
