The Senda Costera is a 15-km coastal footpath running along the cliffs and beaches east and west of Llanes, connecting the town to a string of small coves and headlands with some of the finest sea views in Asturias. The path runs close to the cliff edge for much of its length, with the Cantabrian Sea to the north and the Picos de Europa mountains visible to the south on clear days.
The full path runs from Barro in the west to Pendueles in the east and can be walked in sections or in its entirety over a full day. The terrain is mostly easy — well-marked, gently undulating, with some steeper sections at the headlands. The western section, between Llanes and Torimbia, is the most scenic: it passes through Niembro with its lagoon and offers views of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Asturian coast. Start early in summer to avoid heat and the midday crowds on the most popular beach sections.
