La Lonja

La Lonja takes its name from the fifteenth-century merchants' exchange that still stands at its centre, and the neighbourhood retains something of that mercantile energy — transformed now into some of Palma's best bars, restaurants, and late-night spots. The streets around the Llotja and the Passeig de Sagrera are where Palma's nightlife concentrates, particularly in summer when tables spill out from restaurants onto the wide waterfront promenade.

During the day, La Lonja is one of the most pleasant parts of the city to walk through: the streets are wide enough for afternoon light, the buildings are handsome, and the pace is slower than the tourist-heavy area directly around the cathedral. The neighbourhood blends into the Sa Llotja waterfront district and offers easy access to the old town on one side and the seafront on the other. It is a practical base and a lively place to spend an evening.
