Parc de la Mar occupies the strip of land between the city walls and the sea, directly below the cathedral. Created in the 1980s after the coastal motorway was routed underground, the park contains an artificial lake that provides the most photographed view in Palma: the cathedral reflected in still water, with the walls of La Almudaina rising beside it. On clear evenings the light on the sandstone turns golden and the reflection deepens.
The park is popular with Palma residents for evening walks, and the large Joan Miró ceramic mural on the sea wall is worth a close look. There are cafes and a small outdoor stage that hosts events in summer. The promenade continues east along the waterfront from here, connecting the park to the harbour and the fishing port, making it easy to combine with a walk along the seafront.
