The Calvari is the line of 365 cypress-lined stone steps that climb straight up from the centre of Pollença to a small whitewashed chapel on the hilltop. Built in the 18th century as a stations-of-the-cross pilgrimage, it remains the town's defining sight — a single uninterrupted axis of steps with the chapel framed at the top.
The climb is short but steep and best done in early morning or late afternoon. The view from the top sweeps across the terracotta roofs of the old town to the Tramuntana mountains. The small chapel inside, with its Gothic crucifix, is occasionally open. The Davallament procession on Good Friday is one of the most atmospheric events on Mallorca.
