Getting Around

The city centre is compact and the Casco Viejo, Guggenheim, and Ensanche are all within comfortable walking distance of each other — 20 minutes on foot from one end to the other. For longer journeys or wet weather, Metro Bilbao (Lines 1 and 2) covers the city efficiently. The metro is a sight in itself: Norman Foster's glass entrance canopies (fosteritos) have become city icons.

The tram (Euskotren) runs through the centre along the Nervión riverbank, connecting the Casco Viejo with the Guggenheim and the conference centre area. A BilbaoCard covers metro, tram, and bus services and pays for itself quickly if you use public transport regularly.
