Getting There

Bilbao Airport (BIO) is about 10 km north of the centre and has direct connections to London, Paris, Amsterdam, and most major Spanish cities. Vueling, Iberia, and several low-cost carriers operate routes. The BizkaiBus A3247 runs from the airport to the city centre in about 30 minutes. Taxis are plentiful.

The city is connected to Madrid and Barcelona by long-distance bus (ALSA) and to San Sebastián by frequent regional bus services (PESA). There is no direct AVE high-speed rail yet, but a conventional train service connects Bilbao to Madrid via a scenic route through Burgos. The Estación de Abando Indalecio Prieto is the main rail terminus, notable for its enormous stained-glass window depicting Basque rural life. Driving from San Sebastián takes about an hour on the AP-8 motorway along the coast.
