When to Go

Lanzarote is a year-round destination, with daytime temperatures rarely much below 18°C in winter or much above 30°C in summer. Teguise sits inland at modest elevation, so it is a degree or two cooler than the coastal resorts — pleasant in summer, sometimes breezy and chilly on a winter morning.

Sunday is the day everyone visits, for the weekly market. If you want to see the village at its busiest and most colourful, come on a Sunday morning. If you want to wander the streets in peace, almost any other day works. Avoid August, when the heat and tourist crowds peak together; the spring months of March, April and May are the best of the year.

The big local festival is the Procession of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, the patron-saint celebration in early September, when the village fills with islanders for several days of music, processions, and folk dancing. It coincides with what is locally called the Bajada de la Virgen. Even a single day during the fiesta is memorable.
