Eating Out

Puerto de la Cruz has a good spread of eating options — from Canarian home cooking at local guachinches (informal wine-serving restaurants) to fresh fish at the harbour. The old town around the fishing harbour has the most interesting restaurants. Avoid the tourist-facing menus around the main beach strip in favour of the back streets around Plaza del Charco and the harbour.

Canarian cuisine is worth exploring: papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes) with mojo verde or mojo picón sauces are ubiquitous and good; fresh fish grilled simply is excellent; and the local wines from the Orotava valley are worth trying.
