Museo Arqueológico

Small museum on the pre-Spanish Guanche culture, with pottery and tools

A small but well-curated museum in the old part of town dedicated to the Guanche — the indigenous Berber-descended people who inhabited Tenerife before Spanish conquest in the 15th century. The collection includes ceramic pottery, stone tools, mummies, and burial objects recovered from the island's archaeological sites. Explanatory panels put the artefacts in context: the Guanche had a complex social structure, divided into nine clans, each with its own territory.

The museum occupies a traditional Canarian building near the harbour and is easy to visit in an hour. Admission is modest. It is the best introduction to pre-Hispanic Tenerife available outside the regional capital.
