The Church of la Piedad is a 16th-century Gothic-Renaissance church in the heart of the old town, closely associated with the Mendoza family who funded its construction. The church contains the tombs of several members of the family and preserves good decorative sculpture from the period. It is now deconsecrated and functions as a municipal events space, which means the interior is sometimes accessible even when services are not being held.
The church occupies a prominent position near the Palacio del Infantado and forms part of the coherent ensemble of Mendoza-era buildings that makes Guadalajara's old town worth exploring on foot.
