Port de Roses

The fishing harbour at the eastern end of the bay is one of the busiest on the northern Costa Brava. The fishing fleet still goes out daily and brings back anchovies, prawns, and the deep-water Roses prawn (gamba de Roses), which has its own protected geographical indication and is the headline ingredient in every serious restaurant in town.

The fish auction at the lonja, usually around 5 pm on weekdays, is open to the public and worth catching if you've never seen one — buyers and skippers shouting prices over crates of glittering fish straight off the boats. The pleasure-craft marina alongside is one of the largest in Spain.
