Plaça de Sant Roc

The Plaça de Sant Roc is the effective centre of Sabadell — the point where the main pedestrian streets converge and where the city's commercial and social life is most concentrated. It is a pleasant urban square of no particular architectural distinction but considerable liveliness, especially in the evening when bar terraces extend onto the pavement.

The square is the natural starting point for exploring the city on foot. The Art Museum, History Museum, and Central Market are all within a ten-minute walk. The area immediately around the square has the best concentration of restaurants and bars in the city centre.

A story
The Plaça de Sant Roc takes its name from the church of Sant Roc that once stood here — the church was demolished in the early twentieth century during urban rationalisation, leaving the square as the civic heart of a city that had outgrown its medieval geography. The surrounding buildings are a mix of late nineteenth and early twentieth century construction, several of them in the Catalan Modernisme style that the prosperity of the textile era made possible.
