Sabadell Airport

Sabadell Airport is a small general aviation airport on the southern edge of the city, about 3 km from the centre. It handles no commercial passenger flights — it is used by flight schools, private aircraft, aeroclub members, and the regional aerial emergency services. The airport also houses some aviation maintenance operations.

For aviation enthusiasts, the airport is worth a visit: small planes land and take off frequently, and the perimeter fence is accessible for watching operations. The aeroclubs based here sometimes run open days. There is no public terminal to visit as such, but the airfield environment is pleasant and low-key.

A story
Sabadell Airport was established in the 1940s and has served as a base for general aviation, flight schools, and aerial emergency services ever since. Its survival as a functioning airfield so close to a major metropolitan area is unusual — most comparable airports have been redeveloped. The airport serves as a training ground for pilots who will eventually fly out of Barcelona–El Prat, and the steady stream of small aircraft overhead is a background feature of southern Sabadell.
