Salou's dining scene reflects its international tourist base -- you will find everything from Catalan seafood to full English breakfasts. The best local food leans Mediterranean: fresh fish, rice dishes, and tapas. For a more authentic experience, head to the family-run restaurants off the main promenades.
Arena Restaurant
One of the better Mediterranean restaurants in the resort. The chef, Maribel Guardiola, focuses on fresh local ingredients. Try the gilthead bream oven baked with anchovies, olives, and tomatoes. Children's menu available.
Can Bas
A small family-owned place near the main street to the beach. The veal with baked potatoes is excellent and the atmosphere is homely rather than touristy.
Lasal Restaurant
Located on the cliffs with sea views. A varied menu of tapas, sandwiches, pizzas, fish, and rice dishes at affordable prices.
Villa Magda
An award-winning family restaurant with a quieter atmosphere away from the crowds. The seafood is the highlight -- try the salmon fillet with pesto, tomato salsa, and olive oil.
The Guinness Tavern
Slightly off the beaten track on Calle Alfonso V, with a peaceful pine-shaded garden terrace. The menu runs from fillet steaks and steak-and-Guinness pie to chicken curry and homemade fish cakes. Half portions available for children.
