Terrassa has a strong neighbourhood restaurant scene that feels more Catalan and less tourist-driven than central Barcelona. The Mercat de la Independència, the main covered market in the centre, is the best stop for a slice of traditional life — buy a paper cone of jamón and a glass of wine from one of the small bars inside.
For sit-down meals, Sara Restaurant in the old town does a respectable Catalan tasting menu at sensible prices. El Cel de les Oques in the Plaça Vella is a long-standing tapas place with a very local clientele. La Bodegueta on the Rambla d'Egara serves classic Catalan dishes — escudella, fideuà, mar i muntanya — at lunch menu prices that haven't moved much in years. Avoid the chains around the train station unless you are short of time.
