The Cathedral of Sant Pere de Vic is a neoclassical building constructed in the eighteenth century on the site of a much older Romanesque church, of which the eleventh-century bell tower survives. The interior is the main draw: sweeping murals by Josep Maria Sert cover the walls and vaults, depicting scenes from the life of Christ and from Catalan history on a monumental scale.
The Romanesque cloister, attached to the cathedral, is one of the finest in Catalonia. Carved capitals from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries show biblical scenes and fantastical creatures with considerable energy and skill. The cathedral complex also preserves the crypt of the Romanesque church beneath the nave floor.
Entry to the cathedral is free for the main church; a small fee applies for the museum and cloister.
