Ferry to Vigo

The ferry crossing between Cangas and Vigo is the nicest way to arrive in Cangas, and in its own right one of the better things to do here. The crossing takes about 30 minutes and runs frequently throughout the day and evening. The views of both towns from the water — and of the ría itself — are excellent.

Ferries depart from the Estación Marítima in Vigo and land at the Cangas dock in the town centre. In summer, the service extends to boat trips around the ría and to the Cíes Islands. Fares are low; timetables are available at the dock.

A story
The ferry between Cangas and Vigo has been the main transport link across the ría since the nineteenth century. Locals call it "the boat" and use it daily for work and shopping. Standing on the deck as Vigo's port fills the view ahead, with the hills of Cangas shrinking behind, is one of those small Galician pleasures that costs almost nothing.
