Roman Road

A stretch of the old Roman road linking Lucus Augusti (modern Lugo) with Bracara Augusta survives between Chantada and Monforte de Lemos. The best-preserved sections run through Lincora and over a bridge that disappears under the waters of the Embalse de Belesar depending on the season — when the reservoir is low you can walk most of the way; when it's high, the route is broken by the lake.

It makes a good half-day walk if you start early. The paving stones are worn but recognisably Roman, and the route passes hamlets, vineyards, and a couple of medieval bridges along the way. Bring water; the heat in summer is fierce and there is little shade on the open stretches.
