Illa das Esculturas is Pontevedra's outdoor art walk, a green island in the Lérez River where contemporary works are placed among trees and footpaths rather than inside a gallery. It is a good counterweight to the stone lanes and squares of the old town.
The island is best approached as a slow stroll. Some sculptures are immediately legible, others feel like they are meant to be found by accident, and the river setting keeps the whole thing relaxed rather than precious.
