Soutomaior is a small municipality in the Ría de Vigo valley, most of which is given over to forests, small farms, and the gentle green hills typical of inland Galicia. Its single compelling reason to visit is the medieval castle on the edge of town, a building that has evolved from a bare military stronghold into one of the most romantically planted properties in the region. The castle grounds contain camellias, hydrangeas, magnolias, and ancient chestnut trees that together create a garden of unusual atmosphere, especially in late winter when the camellias are in full bloom.
