Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) is one of Europe's largest hubs and well connected to North America, Latin America, and the rest of Europe. The four terminals (T1, T2, T3 share a complex; T4 is several kilometres apart with its own satellite T4S for long-haul) are linked by free shuttle buses. Metro line 8 runs from both terminal areas to Nuevos Ministerios in the centre in around 25 minutes (€5 including airport supplement); the Cercanías C-1 train links T4 to Atocha in 30 minutes. Taxis to the centre are a flat €30 by city ordinance.
The Atocha and Chamartín stations handle long-distance trains. The AVE high-speed network reaches Barcelona in 2h30, Seville in 2h30, Málaga in 2h45, and Valencia in 1h50, making rail competitive with flying for most domestic trips. The bus station at Méndez Álvaro (south of the centre, metro Méndez Álvaro) serves cheaper intercity routes via ALSA, Avanza, and others.
