Plaza de Colón

Large roundabout at the northern end of Paseo de Recoletos, home to the Torres de Colón and the Discovery Gardens

A large roundabout and cultural space at the northern end of the Paseo de Recoletos, marking the gateway between the Salamanca and Chueca neighbourhoods. The square is anchored by the Monument to Columbus (a tall Gothic column with Columbus at the top) and surrounded by the Torres de Colón — twin 1970s skyscrapers connected at the top by a distinctive horizontal bridge.

Below the square, a sunken garden contains a large stone cube fountain and the venue for frequent concerts and events. The adjacent Centro Cultural de la Villa (also called Fernán Gómez) hosts theatre and exhibitions. The Jardines del Descubrimiento on the square's eastern side have a cluster of sculptures representing the discovery of the Americas. The bus station for airport services is at the northern edge.
