Platea Madrid

Former cinema on Plaza de Colón converted into a spectacular multi-chef food hall with over 30 stalls

A converted cinema on Plaza de Colón that has been turned into one of Madrid's most spectacular food halls — a multi-storey space with a stage at the bottom, tiered balconies running around the former auditorium, and thirty-odd food and drink counters operated by some of Madrid's best-known chefs and restaurant groups. The setting is theatrical: you eat at high tables overlooking the main floor while performances occasionally happen on the stage below.

The range of food is enormous: sushi, jamón, ceviche, traditional Madrid stews, cocktails, vermouth, craft beer. Prices are restaurant-level rather than market-level, but the experience of the space justifies the premium. Best experienced as a long, grazing lunch or early dinner. Metro Colón.
