Altea's main beach is pebble rather than sand, which keeps the crowds thinner than the sandy resort beaches nearby. It runs in a long arc around the bay below the old town, backed by a seafood restaurant strip and a promenade.
For sand, head north to the beaches around Calpe or south toward Benidorm.
