Jávea has restaurants spread across its three zones — old town, port, and Arenal — with distinct characters in each. The port area is the best for seafood: fresh fish bought from the fishing boats and served simply. The old town has a few good tapas bars and a more local clientele. The Arenal has a predictable mix of international restaurants catering to the expatriate community.
Valencian cuisine is the regional base: arroz a banda (rice cooked in fish stock, served separately from the fish), fideuà (the noodle equivalent of paella), and various rice dishes. Local restaurants near the port do these well. The weekly Thursday market in the old town is the place to buy local citrus, almonds, and cured meats.
