Kristine Church is the main parish church of Falun, named after Queen Christina of Sweden in whose reign it was originally built in the 1640s. The current building dates from the rebuilding after the great fire of 1761 that destroyed much of the city, and it is a fine example of Swedish Baroque church architecture, with a distinctive copper-clad tower — appropriate for a city built on copper wealth.
The interior is relatively plain by Swedish church standards, reflecting the Lutheran tradition. The church stands at the heart of the old city grid, surrounded by the well-preserved street plan that was laid out in the 17th century. It is a short walk from the main square and worth a look inside if you are passing through the centre.
