Getting There

Gotland is reached by ferry or plane from mainland Sweden. The main connection is the Destination Gotland ferry from Nynäshamn (south of Stockholm) or from Oskarshamn on the east coast. The crossing takes about three hours on the high-speed ferry. There are also slower overnight sailings. Ferries run year-round but frequency increases sharply in summer. Book well ahead for July sailings — vehicles especially sell out weeks in advance.

Visby Airport has flights from Stockholm Arlanda, Stockholm Bromma, and several other Swedish cities. Swedish domestic flights are reasonably priced outside peak season. The airport is about 3 km north of central Visby.

Nynäshamn is most easily reached from Stockholm Centralstation by the Pendeltåg commuter train, a 55-minute journey. The ferry terminal is a short walk from the train station.
