Teknikens Hus

Teknikens Hus — literally "The House of Technology" — is a hands-on science centre on the Luleå University of Technology campus in the Porsön district, about three kilometres north of the city centre. It was founded in 1988 and has grown into one of northern Sweden's most-visited attractions, drawing around 150,000 visitors a year.

The exhibits are firmly interactive: you can experiment with electricity, test the physics of different materials, explore robotics, and work through basic engineering challenges. There is a strong emphasis on getting children genuinely engaged rather than just looking at things behind glass. The centre also hosts regular demonstrations and temporary exhibitions, and its location beside the university means that real researchers sometimes participate in the programming. Worth a half-day, especially if you are travelling with children.
