Örebro Castle is a medieval fortress on an island in the River Svartån, at the centre of the city. A fortified tower was first built here in the 14th century; the structure was expanded over the following two centuries into a grand Renaissance castle with four round towers and a moat. It remains the most recognisable landmark in the city and one of Sweden's best-preserved medieval castles.
The castle is open for guided tours and houses the regional county governor's offices — one of the few Swedish medieval castles still in active administrative use. The interior includes exhibition rooms and period-furnished halls. The surrounding park along the river is excellent for an evening walk.
Guided tours available in summer and on weekends. Small admission fee.
