Glimmingehus is the finest surviving medieval stone house in Sweden, a tall, austere fortified manor built at the very end of the 15th century. The four storeys of the main keep are essentially unchanged from when they were finished in 1505 — the same thick walls, the same dark spiral staircases, the same heavy timber floors.
The interior is given over to a museum on medieval daily life: weapons, kitchen equipment, costumes, and clever defensive details such as murder holes and hidden chambers. Outside, a moat, herb garden, and small farm complete the picture. The site is open most of the year; check ahead for opening times, which are reduced in winter.
