Vemdalen is above all a place to be outdoors. In winter, three ski resorts — Björnrike, Vemdalsskalet, and Storhogna — sit within a few kilometres of the village and are the main draw. In summer the hills open up for hiking, fishing, wildlife safaris, and cycling through mountain scenery. The octagonal rococo church at the centre of the village is worth a stop in any season.
