Västerås Konstmuseum is a small but well-curated regional art museum housed in a building adjacent to the city hall complex. The permanent collection focuses on Swedish art from the 19th century to the present, with a decent selection of early-20th-century Swedish modernism and a growing collection of contemporary work from artists connected to the region.
Temporary exhibitions rotate several times a year, often in collaboration with Swedish and Scandinavian institutions. Admission is free for the permanent collection. The museum is a short walk from the cathedral, making it a natural addition to a morning exploring the old town.
