The "three-country corner" at the point where the Rhine forms the border between Germany, France, and Switzerland. A modern metal sculpture — resembling a futuristic prow — marks the spot on the Swiss bank. From here you can look across to the Alsatian town of Village-Neuf on the French side and the German town of Weil am Rhein.
Reaching it makes a pleasant walk or bike ride north along the Rhine from the city centre, passing through industrial harbour zones that reveal a different side of Basel. The walk takes about 40 minutes each way. There is a viewing platform, a small café nearby, and passenger ferries that connect the three countries. Going at sunset, with the industrial cranes silhouetted against the sky and the river wide and silver below you, is well worth the journey.
