La Berneuse (2,048 m) is the mountain immediately above Leysin and the most popular outing in town. A gondola from the village climbs to the summit, where the Kuklos revolving restaurant offers 360-degree views over the Vaud Alps, the Mont Blanc massif, and Lake Geneva. In winter it is the heart of the local ski area; in summer the chairs keep running for hikers and paragliders.
The walk down from the summit to Leysin is a classic two-hour descent through alpine pasture; a longer ridge route via the Tour d'Aï is more demanding but spectacular. Bring proper shoes — the path is rocky in places.
