The Chaumont funicular climbs steeply from the edge of Neuchâtel toward the forested heights above the city. At the top, a viewing tower gives a broad look over the lake country and, in clear weather, toward the Alps and Mont Blanc.
It is an easy way to trade the lakeside town for mountain air without making a full-day excursion. The ride itself is part of the fun, especially on the steeper upper section.
